ISA Chosen by Pan Centre

ISA display cabinets and shopfitting systems have been exclusively specified for the latest Anand Pan Centre to open in London.  For the project, ISA (UK), the wholly-owned subsidiary of ISA S.p.A, Italy, designed not only the entire layout but also the interior styling of the store to match the ISA display cabinets.  ISA (UK) was also responsible for the installation and commissioning of the project, with a team from the parent Italian manufacturer flown in to complete the task.

Anand Pan Centres serve the Indian community in and around London.  The newly opened Kingsbury Road outlet joins three established branches in Ilford and Tooting.  Their core product is ‘pan’ (or paan), the speciality delicacy which is chewed after meals to aid digestion, cleanse the palette and freshen the breath.  Other Indian foods are also offered including freshly prepared savouries and other grocery items.  In addition, a large range of scooping ice creams is offered following the successful introduction of similar products in the Tooting outlet using a stand-alone ISA cabinet.

Their core product - the ‘pan’ - is hand-made to customers’ own requirements.  A wide variety of ingredients – sweet and savoury - is artistically displayed and customers select their own combinations.  The chosen ingredients are placed in betel leaves which have been softened by soaking in water and kept cool on the specially constructed cold-plate.  The effective display of the ingredients is a particularly important part of the process as potential customers are “buying with their eyes”.

ISA used a range of standard cabinets and finishes, combined with some specially manufactured components, to create the final layout.  The ‘pan’ cabinet itself is completely custom-built to include a black granite preparation area, a sloping display shelf and an elevated stainless steel cold-plate assembly concealing a cooling coil, refrigerant piping and a liquid drain.

A 28-flavour professional scooping ice cream display is included in the run of cabinets, as well as a 2.5 metre unit for savoury snacks.  All the units are joined by serving counters with ‘Black Africa’ granite tops.  Back-bar fittings and rear preparation areas are in polished stainless steel, custom made in the factory to exactly fit the site dimensions and even shaped to fit around structural elements.
